Abstract

This document is the product of a two-year, comprehensive review of the medical standards for civilian airmen, presently codified as Part 67 of the Federal Air Regulations (FAR). It presents a total and comprehensive review of the medical standards for airman medical certification and their application to enable the FAA to determine the medical fitness of applicants for exercise of airman privileges, and considers pertinent advances in the field of medicine since 1959, and determine what changes in FAA medical standards, are warranted and the rationale for such changes.
