Management Review: Progress and Challenges at the Defense Logistics Agency.

Abstract

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) procures, stocks, and issues supplies vital to the military services. It also performs contract administration and other services. This report discusses the effectiveness of management systems that support the capability of the Director, DLA, to plan, direct, organize, control, and evaluate the accomplishment of DLA's varied missions. During this review, GAO and DLA identified certain problems in financial management, automated systems, and other areas, DLA has been responsive in addressing these problems and has initiated several actions to improve its management processes. GOA's panel of logistics experts provided additional comments on DLA management issues for consideration by the Department of Defense (DoD).
