OPERATION COBRA. Deliberate Attack, Exploitation

Abstract

This report provides a battle analysis of the breakout from the Normandy beachhead and the subsequent pursuit of German forces which came to a temporary halt at the West Wall and took place from 25 July - 12 September 1944. The operation characterized by rapid, independent operations conducted by individual armored combat commands. The principle antagonists were the Allied Forces under the direction of General Eisenhower and the German Oberbefehlshaber (Theater Headquarters) West. Allied forces involved included: 12th Army Group, 1st Army, 3rd Army, and VII Corps. German forces included: 7th Army, LXXXIV corps, 116 PZ Division, and 91st Division.
