Using Voice Recognition as an Input Medium to the JINTACCS (Joint Interoperability of Tactical Command and Control Systems) Automated Message Preparation System (JAMPS).
Abstract
This thesis investigates the interfacing of voice recognition, also known as automatic speech recognition (ASR), with the Joint Interoperability of Tactical Command and Control Systems (JINTACCS) Automated Message Preparation System (JAMPS). The voice recognition system used is the Texas Instruments (TI) TI-SPEECH(tm) imbedded in the TI Portable Professional Computer (PPC). The writers able to load the JAMPS software onto the TIPPC's hard disk. With the vocabulary they built, they ran the JAMPS software on the TIPPC using voice recognition. Their results indicate ASR has an application in message preparation during military operations. ASR could curtail the time to prepare messages, and thereby reduce the time element in the command and control process. The authors propose a measure of performance to test how much time might be saved by using APR with JAMPS. They also suggest some areas for future research. Keywords: Voice recognition; Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), JINTACCS, JAMPS, Message Preparation.
