Abstract

This is a packet of briefing charts for a speech given by Gen. Maxwell Thurman. The main topic was continued modernization of Army forces to support Army missions of: defeating a Warsaw Pact attack, denying Soviet Control of the Persian Gulf, definding U.S. interests in the Pacific Supporting Allies, maintaining a strategic reserve, and responding to other threats. He discusses types of warfare the Army is ready for and new equipment that is being procured. He also discusses maintenance, sustainability, maximum effective ranges, joint military activities, mobilization requirements, expert systems, and Army real grow trends. Finally there are charts showing statistics about Army personnel, their problems, and the care of their families.
