Weighted Scholarship Selection Model

Abstract

The Air Force convenes selection boards to identify individuals to receive AFROTC 4-Year Scholarships. Selections are made using selection boards on a national basis. This study reviews initial results of research designed to test the feasibility of using a weighted scholarship selection model as a management tool to monitor and assist scholarship selection boards. A survey was developed to determine which items in the scholarship selection folder influenced the board members the most. The results of the survey were compared with two separate groups. Predictive accuracy is most precise for those cases in the low and the high score areas and less accurate for any falling near the selection cut-off. Suggestions were made for refining the scholarship selection model to support future scholarship selection boards and improve selection reliability with a reduced net workload.
