A New Efficient Approach to the Formulation of Mixed Finite Element Models for Structural Analysis.

Abstract

A new finite element formulation is developed based on the Hellinger-Reissner principle with independent strain. By dividing the assumed strain into the lower order part and the higher order part, the new formulation can be made much more efficient than the standard mixed formulation. In addition the present new approach provides a rational way of introducing stabilization matrix to suppress undesirable kinematic modes. (Author)
