Near-Surface Bubble Motions in Sea Water

Abstract

This report considers one aspect of the problems associated with bubbles in the wake of a surface ship. A method which has been developed for calculating the evolution and transport of bubbles is described. Results which were obtained with this method are presented and are compared with the limited experimental data which is available. Generally good agreement was found between the numerical and experimental results. Several areas are noted where further research is indicated. Keywords: Bubbles; Surface foam; Bubble transport; Numerical methods; Ship wakes.
