Automating the AFROTC Four-Year Scholarship Program.

Abstract

The current AFROTC Four-Year Scholarship Program's Data Processing System software was written in 1968. Since then, personnel have modified and added to the system. This functional description provides the foundation added to the system. This functional description provides the foundation for developing a new system. It complies with the requirements of DODS 793.5, Automated Data System Documentation Index of Specifications and Standards. The description defines unique terms, summarizes current and proposed systems, provides specific requirements for the proposed system, identifies environmental considerations, cost factors and a system development plan. The proposed system will simplify and accelerate data processing; significantly reduce the reliance on paper products and the labor-intensity of the current system; and consolidate information which will enhance management capability and ultimately reduce scholarship costs, while being more responsive to the needs of applicants. It will incorporate state of the art technology, designed to keep in step with the other services' scholarship programs, enhance the security of the system and reduce personnel costs.
