Installation Restoration Program. Phase I. Records Search, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Abstract

A search of USAF records and interviews with past and present base personnel was conducted to identify past hazardous waste generation and disposal practices at Peterson AFB, CO. The base is located on the eastern edge of Colorado Springs, CO on the high plains east of the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Seven sites were identified and inspected as potential hazardous waste sites. Fiv of the sites were selected for further investigation based upon potential for contaminant release and environmental degradation. Fuel and solvent spills and disposal account for the majority of the environmental concerns. Follow on recommendations include the sampling and analysis of soils and ground waters at five sites to determine the extent of contamination if any. (Author)
