Geomorphological Investigation of the Atchafalaya Basin, Area West, Atchafalaya Delta, and Terrebonne Marsh. Volume 1.

Abstract

A geomorphological investigation of the Atchafalaya Basin, Area West, Atchafalaya Delta, and the Terrebonne Marsh was conducted in order to provide a geomorphological framework for subsequent cultural resource investigations in the region. The objectives of the investigation were to (a) define and delineate on appropriate maps the major landform units (geomorphic features) of the physical landscape of the region; (b) reconstruct, to the extent possible, the geomorphic development of the Atchafalaya Basin, Area West, Atchafalaya Delta, and Terrebonne Marsh areas; and (c) determine the archaeological significance of the geomorphic features in the study areas, especially in terms of aiding in locating previously unknown archaeological sites.
