Wave Propagation and Dynamics of Lattice Structures.

Abstract

The application of the transfer matrix method to the analysis of wave propagation and vibration in periodic structures is introduced. Analyses of a one-dimensional rod, a three-bay planar lattice structure and a three-dimensional tetrahedral truss are given to illustrate the general approach in applying the transfer matrix method. In addition, a numerical example is given. The frequency response functions for specific locations in a one-dimensional rod due to an excitation at a particular location are obtained using a basic language computer program. The responses at one location in the rod due to an impulse excitation, a square pulse excitation and a triangular pulse excitation at a second location are also obtained. Keywords: Large space structures.
