POL Pier Repairs Lajes Field, Azores Construction Inspection Visit Number 2.

Abstract

This report discusses the problems involved in the construction and repair to the piers at Lajes Field. The contractor required an extension of the 100-day shutdown period and penalties would have to be applied because the base would be too low on fuel. Inspection topics included: Rock anchorages, Pile tie down at loading platform, Epoxy pressure grout repairs - Loading platform, Harbor bottom elevations, New north and south dolphin structures, and Approachway concrete spalling.
