Study of the Status and Potential of High Energy Beam Welding in Shipyard Construction.

Abstract

This summary report presents the results fo the work performed under the National Bureau of Standards contract NB84RAC45137 on the Study of the Status and Potential of High Energy Beam Welding in Shipyard Construction. The objective of this paper study was to assess the possibilities of achieving higher productivity through development of high energy beam welding processes with the intent to contribute to the reduction-to-practice of specific welding equipment and procedures. Part of this study was performed by United Technologies Research Center on laser beam welding and part by Chicago Bridge and Iron Company on electron beam welding.
