M42/M46 Grenade Body Manufacturing Process

Abstract

This project was initiated to develop an alternate, less costly manufacturing process for the M42/M46 grenade metal parts. Several different manufacturing processes were independently investigated resulting in the conclusion that the warm backward extrusion process produced an equivalent grenade body while offering a significant reduction in cost.
