Installation Restoration General Environmental Technology Development. Task II. Pilot Investigation of Low Temperature Thermal Stripping of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) from Soil. Volume 1. Technical Report.

Abstract

This report presents the results of a pilot investigation which successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of Low Temperature Thermal Stripping as a decontamination method for soils contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOC's). The project included: process equipment and test site selection, waste characterization, development of a detailed test plan and safety plan, pilot investigation and evaluation of results. Keywords: Operating temperature; Residence time; Air inlet temperature; Afterburner; Thermal processor; Hazardous substance list (HSL); Volatization; and Soil discharge temperature. (Author)
