Linear Elastic Fracture Testing: Current Status within ASTM Committee E-24 on Fracture,

Abstract

The current status of elastic-stress-controlled fracture testing within ASTM is summarized, including example test results from high-strength steel forgings used for cannon. Plane-strain fracture toughness test methods were emphasized. Areas for future work were also discussed, including rapid crack growth tests, correlative tests, and tests for composite materials. Keywords: Pressure vessel.
