Reliability Prediction Models for Mechanical Equipment.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present a proposed methodology for predicting the reliability of mechanical equipment and solicit comments as to the potential utility of a complete handbook of reliability prediction procedures. The prediction methodology being developed considers the critical failure modes of a mechanical component, its material strengths, and the operating stresses at the component level. This method of analysis permits a prediction of the failure rate for each component of a mechanical system based upon the operating environment.
