The Basket Method and its Role in Design and Model Oriented Approaches to Survey Sampling.

Abstract

This paper discusses the basket method of sampling and estimation in finite populations in the framework of the traditional design based approach (randomization) and the model oriented approach (superpopulation). It is shown that the basket method incorporates the desirable features of both approaches. Its properties are studied. (Author)
