Experimental Verification of Soliton Theory Using a Microwave Crossed-Field Amplifier.

Abstract

The soliton approach of describing the operation of a microwave crossed-field amplifier (CFA) is experimentally investigated using the Varian SFD-262 S-band CFA as the test vehicle. Theoretical predictions of voltage characteristics with corresponding observed data show close agreement over a wide range of magnetic field values. A detailed description of the experimental process is given as well as a working introduction to soliton theory. (Author)
