Standard Software Requirements Engineering Language.

Abstract

A baseline guidance specifying the minimum requirements to be imposed on developers of Mission Critical Computer Resources (MCCR) for using a Requirements Engineering Language (REL) has been developed and is contained in this report. Imposition of a REL on developing contractors will enable the U.S. Army to support software compliance, testing, and code inspection. These requirements are expected to be implemented in future MCCR development contracts. Recommended specifications for software-based REL development tools which make use of current advances in hardware and user-friendly interface concepts are described in this report. Even though use of a REL without the advantage of software-based development tools will significantly aid in MCCR system development, significant increases in REL document productivity will result from the use of the automated REL development tools described in the report.
