Air Force Integrated Readiness Measurement System (AFIRMS). Wing Database Specification.

Abstract

The objectives of this Wing Database Specification for the Air Force Integrated Readiness Measurement System (AFIRMS) are to describe the storage allocation and database organization and to provide the basic design data necessary for the construction of the system files, tables, dictionaries, and directories. There are vast difference between a database design in the classical sense where a DBMS is chose and a schema (or logical design) is developed, and the design of the AFIRMS databases. AFIRMS can accommodate many different DBMSs and schemas. Complexities arise because AFIRMS resides at three different levels of the command structure. Standard data base issues such as security, ad hoc query capability, and data communications become very complicated when the ability to receive and transmit data between sites is considered the basis of the system. In the Analysis Phase of the initial block of each segment, the database designer must be aware of these problems and realize that the design of the database at each level is highly dependent upon the other levels.
