Comparisons of Finite Element and Benchmark Elastic Solutions for Cylindrical Shells under Concentrated Loads.

Abstract

This report summarizes linear solutions to the pinched circular cylinder problem as provided by the technical or engineering theories of shells. Comparisons of these analytical solutions with finite element analyses by ABAQUS and STAGS with reasonably sized finite element grids are tabulated. The agreement between the analytical and the finite element results is quite good.
