Longwave Propagation - A Brief Review.
Abstract
This brief review of the state-of-knowledge of longwave electromagnetic propagation in the near-earth environment includes some discussions of commonly available computer models for this frequency regime. The frequency range considered in this report encompasses the ELF, the VLF, and the lower part of the LF band. Because longwave propagation is characterized by high stability in both amplitude and phase, and because these frequencies propagate to very great distances, longwave signals are of considerable practical importance to global communications, navigation systems, and to global frequency and time comparisons.
