Detached Breakwaters for Shore Protection.

Abstract

This report discusses the application of detached single and segmented breakwaters for shore protection and beach stabilization. Four single detached breakwaters and six segmented breakwater systems in the United States are reviewed. Based on this review, the performance of breakwaters in other countries, and general knowledge of coastal processes, the implementation and design of breakwaters are discussed. General guidance is presented for the design of detached breakwaters and several design examples are presented. (Author)
