Future Research Needs for Dredgeability of Rock: Rock Dredging Workshop Held in Jacksonville, Florida on 25-26 July 1985.

Abstract

This report identifies and discusses research needs concerned with predicting dredging difficultly in rock materials. Proceedings of the 25-26 July 1985 Corps of Engineers workshop on rock dredging problems are summarized. The workshop's primary purpose was to determine the direction of future research for the Civil Works Investigation Study work unit on the dredgeability of rock. A plan of study is proposed for developing a dredgeability rating scheme for rock. A plan of study is proposed for developing a dredgeability rating scheme for rock based on the given outline of rock dredging problem background, as identified prior to the workshop, and the topics discussed during the workshop. These topics included rock dredging case history reviews, existing predictive methods for dredge performance, exploration and design methods, and the relation of a solution for the problem at hand to the legal aspects of rock dredging claims. Keywords: Rock descriptors; Rock mass properties; Rock properties.
