Unionization and the United States Armed Forces (1985),

Abstract

Elimination of the draft in 1973 and all volunteer force sparked the demand for better pay and benefits, improved work condition, use of free time and fairer methods of assignments and promotion. Serious unionization efforts and its support caused Congress and the military establishment to be concerned. Public Law 95-610 outlawed military unionization. There is a discussion of the German Armed Forces and the German Federal Armed Forces Association (DBV). The constitutionality of PL-95-610, the role the U.S. Armed Forces Associations play, and the impact of the Gramm Rudman Hollings Plan are also discussed.
