Unified Equation of State for Weakly-and Strongly-Coupled Laboratory Plasmas.

Abstract

An argument is presented which permits a laboratory plasma of arbitrary ionization to be viewed as a one component plasma. In this equivalence, an effective ion charge number, dependent on temperature and ion number density, is used to obtain a generalized plasma parameter, in turn, dependent on temperature and ion number density. Employing this generalized plasma parameter in previously obtained expressions for internal energy yields a unified equation of state over the range of consideration. A numerical plot of this equation as a function of temperature reflects the shell structure of atoms in the plasma.
