Kelvin: An Interactive Computer Code for the Kelvin Spectrum with Viscous Corrections.
Abstract
A detailed description is given of computer code KELVIN, which calculates the amplitude spectrum of the Kelvin waves behind a ship moving at constant forward speed, corrected for viscous effects. The code uses thin ship and slender ship theorie to obtain the hull singularity distribution, and axisymmetric boundary layer approaches to approximate the boundary layer flow over the hull surface. The spectral forms for obtaining the amplitude, spatial slopes, and resistance of the Kelvin waves are presented. A description is given of the general structure of the code. The input menus, by means of which data are interactively entered into the code, are explained in detail. Graphical representations are given for the spectra of a 300-ft long Series 60, C sub B = 0.60 ship obtained by using various calculation options of the code.
