Anthropometric Comparison - USA and USSR.

Abstract

This comparison of US/USSR anthropometric dimensions uses illustrations and table formats from the US Army Human Engineering Design Data Digest. US Army figures and tables are shown on the left page and USSR tables are shown on the right page with separate tables for men and women. Each table provides 5th and 95th percentile values in centimeters of Armenian, Russian, and Lithuanian populations. This comparison includes five sets of dimensions: Standing Body Dimensions, Seated Body Dimensions, Circumferences and Surface Dimensions, Head and Face Dimensions, and Anthropametric Data for Workspaces. Detail of some measurements varies between the two countries. USSR illustrations often show the skeletal measurement reference points while US illustrations do not. Each country offers more or less detail on specific anthropametric measures.
