UHF (Ultra High Frequency) Military Satellite Communications Ground Equipment Interoperability.

Abstract

This report addresses interoperability among users of UHF Military Satellite Communications (UHF MILSATCOM). Prior to identifying well-defined requirements for interoperability, each service developed equipment meeting its own requirements, but with little capacity for interoperating with other services' equipment. This report presents UHF interoperability from two major viewpoints: technical and managerial. It gives the reader an idea of what has been done and recommends solutions to enhance interoperability between the services and special user groups in a tactical environment. It summarizes and comments on directives and studies addressing UHF MILSATCOM interoperability. It considers interoperability from user to user, including source processing, waveform processing, radio frequency, intermediate frequency, and network considerations. It addresses seven levels of interoperability.
