Archeological Investigations in the Lower Pool Area of the La Farge Lake Project Area,

Abstract

This report represents the last of three reports on archaeological investigation in La Farge Lake Project area. This report covers the investigations of archaeological sites in the lower Pool area. The lower pool area extends along the valley from the dam site about one mile northeast of La Farge. This is the area which would be flooded if aa cofferdam were built to enable the completion of the proposed Kickapoo dam. The Lower Pool area was occupied most frequently during the Middle to early Late Woodland periods. Of the 18 sites included in this report, 7 have been recommended for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. These sites have potential for yielding valuable archaeological information which would enhance our understanding of prehistoric settlement in the Upper Kickapoo Valley. (Author)
