Alpha-Methylstyrl- and Styrlphosphazene Monomers and Polymers.

Abstract

The synthesis of the m and p alpha-methylstyrl-phosphazenes, N3P3F6-n (C6H4C(CH3)=CH2)n (n=1,2) is reported. Aqt the bis stage of substitution, all isomers are observed with the cis non-geminal species predomination. The mono alpha-methylstyrl derivatives enter into facile copolymerization reactions wherein both terminal and pennultimate mechanisms are observed. The synthesis and homopolymerization of styrlpentafluorocyclotriphosphazene is discussed.
