The 1985 Army Experience Survey. Data Sourcebook and User's Manual

Abstract

This document is one of a series of ten reports (Technical Report, Research Note, and Research Products) which provide background information on, descriptions of methodology for, and documentation of, the 1985 Army Experience Survey (AES). The Data Sourcebook/User's Manual, documents the survey data obtained during the 1985 AES. The AES was undertaken to obtain information on the characteristics, experiences, and attitudes of recently separated Army veterans. The survey was designed to answer specific questions raised by the Secretary of the Army, John O. Marsh, Jr., in Spring of 1984. The Data Sourcebook/User's Manual consists of three chapters providing a project overview, a guide to use of the codebook, and descriptions of the creation and selection of special variables for inclusion on the AES database. Another major component of the report is a codebook documenting all variables contained on the survey data file produced for the 1985 AES. The survey data are available in Operating System (OS) as well as Statistical Analysis System (SAS) format.
