Fused Salt Synthesis of Materials for IR (Infrared) Windows.

Abstract

The production of narrow size distribution, NaLaS2, for IR windows, using a fused salt technique is described. Materials for this application require erosion resistance, high hardness and strength with good thermal shock resistance. This type of very simple fused salt chemistry appears to be a viable approach to modern ceramic synthesis of monosize particles of complex sulfides or other chalcogenides.
