Deterioration of Fuel Stored in the Tropics.

Abstract

Automotive gasoline (Mogas), Aviation turbine fuel (JP-4), and Diesel fuel oil (DF-2) were exposed for two years in 55-gallon steel drums at the USATTC Fort Clayton POL Tank Farm. The number of Mogas samples found failing the distillation, unwashed gum content and color tests increased with increased exposure. Results were basically similar for samples exposed in both shaded and unshaded exposure modes. JP-4 samples exhibited low Reid Vapor Pressure ar the end of the test. DF-2 samples did not exhibit any deterioration throughout the test.
