Optical Tolerances for Alignment and Image Differences for Binocular Helmet-Mounted Displays

Abstract

Reviews the literature on optical alignment and image difference tolerances for binocular devices. Tolerances for vertical and horizontal misalignment and for rotation, magnification and luminance differences are recommended. Recommendations are made for collimation tolerance and for eye relief and exit pupil diameter for helmet-mounted binocular displays. Formulas are derived for magnification difference tolerances for partially and totally overlapping fields of view.
