Research on Problem-Solving Systems.

Abstract

The main task of this program is to develop powerful methods of representing, generating, and executing hierarchical plans that contain parallel actions. Execution involves monitoring the state of the world and, possibly, replanning if things do not proceed as expected. Over the last few years, we have designed and implemented a system called SIPE (System for Interactive Planning and Execution Monitoring), the purpose of which is to demonstrate the heuristic adequacy of our approach to this problem. Our basic in procedural networks. Our research this year concentrated on improving SIPE to provide a high-level reasoning capability for a mobile robot. Topics include: Sonar interfaces; Low-level sonar preception; Improving the replanning algorithm; Matching variables with PRED constraints; Efficiency considerations. Keywords: Control systems; Artificial intelligence.
