Petersen Multipliers for Several SEU (Single Event Upset) Environment Models.

Abstract

Several published models for the interplanetary heavy-ion environment resulting from galactic cosmic rays and solar-flare-accelerated ions are described. These models are used to calculate linear energy transfer (LET) spectra behind 1 g cm to the minus 2 power (150 mils) of aluminum shielding. Appropriate parameters (multipliers) are deduced form theses spectra for use in the Suggested Single-Event Upset Figure of Merit calculation described by Petersen et al. (1983). The results of this study are compared to the suggestions of E.C. Smith, and the differences between the two are discussed. Keywords: Radiation effects; Cosmic rays; Solor flares.
