Steel: Metallographic Methods for Determining Nonmetallic Inclusions.

Abstract

The present standard applies to steels and alloys and establishes the metallographic methods for determining the degree of their contamination with nonmetallic inclusions. Nonmetallic inclusions are determined by the: method Sh (variants Sh1-Sh4) - by a comparison with standard scales, it is used for testing deformed metal; method K (variants K1-K2) - by counting the number of inclusions, it is used for testing deformed and cast metal; method P (variants P1-P4) - by calculating the number and percent by volume of inclusions, it is used for testing deformed and cast metal; method L (variants L1-L2) - by a linear count of inclusions, it is used for testing cast material.
