AGARD (Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development) Engine Disc Material Cooperative Test.

Abstract

Specimens, machined from a gas turbine engine fan disc of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, were subjected to fatigue testing, electrical potential drop measurements, and microstructural and fractographic examination. The fatigue crack initiation and growth, and fracture behavior were characterized, and the relationship between crack voltage and crack size was defined quantitatively. The microstructures and fractographs are typical of Ti-6Al-4V alloy forgings. This investigation was a part of NATO's AGARD Engine Disc Material Cooperative Test Project. Keywords: Engine discs; Fatigue crack initiation; Fracture (Mechanics); Electric potential; Microstructure; Fractography; titanium alloys.
