Propulsion and Energetics Panel Working Group 17 on Performance of Rocket Motors with Metallized Propellants.

Abstract

Different methods have been used to calculate and predict the performance of solid rocket motors with metallized propellants. An AGARD Working Group was formed in order to compare the different prediction methods, to investigate the sources of inaccuracy and to make recommendations for future applications. The Working Group performed calculations and predictions with different methods for two test cases and compared the results with each other and with the results of experimental investigations. Finally, the Working Group came up with some conclusions and the recommendations for the application of a simplified semi-empirical method for a specific impulse prediction accuracy of 1%. Keywords: Divergence loss; Impingement loss; Metallized rocket propellants; Performance prediction; Rocket motors; Scale effect; Specific impulse; Two phase flow; Wall loss.
