Real Time Measurement for Solid Propellant Burn Rate by Line Scan Photography,

Abstract

A microprocessor is linked to a line scan camera to measure the burn rates of solid propellants and to study the combustion processes. This system is a new high speed optoelectric device. In this work, the optical images of the instantaneous combustion processes of types A and B propellants are transformed into digital signals by a charge coupled device and delivered to the microprocessor to compute the mean burn rates and combustion pressure indices. Then, the relation between the pellet length and combustion time is plotted. All data is tabulated and printed.
