International Symposium on Molecular, Genetic and Immunologic Studies of the Host-Parasite Interaction of the Intracellular Protozoan Parasite, Leishmania held in Cotswolds, England on December 3-6, 1985.

Abstract

Recent developments in the study of the biology of the host/parasite relationship in leishmaniasis are examined. Topics covered and summarized include: 1) factors affecting infectivity and initiation of infection; 2) parasite physiology (with an emphasis on pharmacology and mechanisms of drug resistance); 3) immunoregulation of parasite within the host; 4) vaccination studies; and 5) approaches to the molecular characterization of Leishmania. The following is a report of the meeting from the summaries produced by session co-chairpersons at the meeting. Keywords: vaccine; chemotherapy; genetics.
