REGIS - An RAE Experimental Image-Based Geographic Information System.

Abstract

This report describes the development of REGIS, an image-based geographic information system originally conceived as a way of combining remotely-sensed images with digital map data. Details are given of how the information is stored as digital images, how the GEMS systems is used to manipulate and display these images, and how various forms of output are produced. Examples are given of the wide scope of REGIS, including a worked answer to a typical problem. A description of the hardware, the processes used to convert the data to image format, and the more advanced uses of REGIS are given in the appendices. (Great Britain)
