Research in Energetic Compounds.
Abstract
The synthesis of fluoronitro polymers of use as binders in pyrotechnics applications was investigated. Reaction of lithium 2-nitropropane-1,3-diol acetonide with 1-iodoperfluorohexane, 1-iodoperfluoroheptane, 1-iodoperfluorooctane, and 1-iodoperfluorodecane gave the corresponding 2-perfluoroalkyl-2-nitropropane-1,3-diacetonides, which were hydrolyzed with boron trifluoride in ethylene gylcol to give 2-perfluoroalkyl-2-nitropropane-1,3-diols. Reaction of 2-oximino-1,1-trifluoropropane and 1-oximino-1-phenyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethane with nitric acid in methylene chloride gave 2,2-dinitro-1,1,1-trifluoropropane and 1,1-dintro-1-phenyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethane, respectively. The reaction of sodium nitrite with 1-iodo-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctane and 1-iodo-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorododecane. Oxidative nitration of 1,3-dinitrocyclobutane gave 1,13,3-tetranitrocyclobutane and 1,1,3-trinitrocyclobutane. Aqueous bromination of 1,3-dinitrocyclobutane gave 1,3-dibromo-1,3-dinitrocyhclobutane. 5,10-Dintro-dispiro decane, prepared form the corresponding diamine by m-chloroperbenzoic acid oxidation, was oxidatively nitrated with sodium persulfate and potassium ferricyanide to give 5,510,10-tetranitro-dispiro decane.
