Engineering Support for the Free Breathing Static Dehumidification (FBSDH) Syste
Abstract
Deterioration of materiel from moisture induced corrosion in shelters/trailers/vans (S/T/Vs) during shipping/storage led to the development of a self-contained system designed to maintain a relative humidity (RH) of 40 percent or less within a S/T/V for a period of two years without desiccant changes. This particular system is static because there is no external means to generate its operation. Six prototype FBSDH systems were fabricated. The field test operation was established to verify the prototype design and to determine the actual life of the desiccant charge. Data shows the prototype FBSDH system did not verify the design requirement of maintaining a 40 percent or less RH in the interior of the S/T/Vs. It is anticipated the FBSDH system will maintain 40 percent or less RH level when installed in equipment or containers designed to meet the requirement of 2.0 inches of water pressure for 60 minutes.
