Abstract

Presented is a subset of the National List of Plant Species That Occur In Wetlands of the northeast region of the United States. This area includes Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The list was initiated by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wetland Inventory (NWI). A candidate national list of more than 5000 species was developed and, using information from more than 250 taxonomic references, the NWI assigned a tentative wetland indicator status to many of the species. The indicator status categories, which define the estimated probability of a species occurring in wetlands, are as follows: Obligate Wetalnd Plants; Facultative Wetland Plants; Facultative Plants; Facultative Upland Plants; Obligate Upland Plants.
