Characteristics of the Thermal Plasma Monitor (SSIES) (Special Sensor for Ions, Electrons, and Scintillation) for the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Spacecraft S8 through S10

Abstract

This report provides an overview of the capabilities of the Special Sensor for Ions, Electrons, and Scintillation (SSIES), its operating modes, the data the instrument produces, and the programs used to process the data. This information is necessary to users of SSIES data, including scientists and the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL), Regis College, the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), and others.
