Millimeter Wave Generation by Relativistic Electron Beams.

Abstract

Progress was achieved in the following five areas: 1) a theory was developed for study of the electron cyclotron maser instability as a mechanism for Em wave generation by relativistic plasmas, 2) a conceptual study was completed on electron beam acceleration by EM radiation, 3) a cusptron microwave tube experiment was designed and fabricated, 4) a theoretical study was completed by induced scattering of a lower hybrid wave by the parametrically excited purely growing density fluctuations into a forward and backward going lower hybrid wave, by the parametically excited purely growing density fluctuations into a forward and a backward going lower hybrid wave, 5) a self consistent model was developed for electric discharge and the functional dependence of the V-1 characteristics of an arc and the onset process of arc construction on thermal properties.
